The flying car called “Transition” created by Terrafugia Inc., a company based in Woburn, Massachusetts completed its first flight last month, according to AP.
The Transition is a two-seater flying car with four wheels and two wings which can be folded so it can be driven like a car. It flew for eight minutes only at 1,400 feet.
The flying car will be introduced later this week to the public at the New York Auto Show. Reportedly, around 100 people have already shown their interest on the flying car and deposited 10,000 as down payment to get Transition when they go on sale.
According to Steven Moscaritolo, spokesperson from Terrafugia, the Transition can reach up to 70 miles per hour on the road and 115 in the air. It uses a 23-gallon tank of automotive fuel and burns 5 gallons per hour in the air while it gets 35 miles per gallon on the road.
In order to own the Transition flying car, one must pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time, says Terrafugia.
“We are introducing ourselves as a viable company to the automotive world,” Moscaritolo said.
The expected cost of the Transition is $279,000. Watch the video below of “Transition” the flying car:
