Rajon Rondo hops to Manila on Monday for skills clinic

Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo will arrive in Manila on Monday as part of his Asian tour.

The NBA all-star will conduct an exclusive skills clinic sponsored by Red Bull for selected NCAA and UAAP players open only to invited media on Tuesday at Ronac Gym. Rondo will also visit the San Juan National High School Gym, which was the beneficiary of the company’s corporate outreach program.

A trip to the Philippines was originally not part of the itinerary for Rondo, who will fly to Taiwan and Hong Kong as part of his tour for King of the Rock, an international one-on-one basketball tournament which culminates in a final showdown in the island of Alcatraz in California. But Filipinos’ reputation for being crazy about basketball reportedly piqued the interest of Rondo.

Rondo’s visit is a prelude to the Philippine leg of the King of the Rock tournament, which will begin next year.

The 26-year-old Rondo is a favorite among Celtics fans in the Philippines, A three-time all-star, Rondo had his finest season in 2011-12, leading the NBA in assists and being named to the All-NBA third team.
