President Benigno S. Aquino III yesterday signed Proclamation No. 461 declaring a special non-working day on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, who was a former mayor of Naga City, will be cremated in the city on that day.
Earlier, the city government of Naga issued a resolution requesting the Office of the President to declare August 28, 2012, the day of Secretary Robredo’s interment, a non-working day.
This is to allow the people of Naga to participate in the State Funeral and pay their last respects to the former DILG chief.
Robredo served for six terms as mayor of Naga City since 1988 and was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay for Government Service in 2000, the first Filipino mayor to be given the award.
Robredo was killed in a plane crash off the coast of Masbate on August 18, 2012 in a flight from Cebu en route to Naga City.
Meanwhile, August 27 is a regular holiday nationwide to mark National Heroes’ Day.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded private sector employers to observe the proper pay rules for their workers on this day. (With a report from Leslie Ann G. Aquino)
