MANILA, Philippines – A girl died after a steel structure fell on her in Pasig City on Friday morning.
Authorities said a wire supporting the structure - a steel frame of a waiting shed's roof - snapped. This caused the heavy steel structure to collapse and crush 9-year-old Jessabel Pomeres who was seated on a gutter in Barangay Kalawaan.
Pomeres died due to severe head injury. Two boys were injured in the accident.
Authorities are investigating claims that the structure fell because several children were shaking it.
The waiting shed's roof was removed temporarily due to construction works. Contractors only left the steel structure and secured it using steel wire.
