MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – The state weather bureau upgraded the rain warning signal hoisted over Metro Manila from “yellow” to “green” to "yellow" again early Thursday.
In its 3:30 a.m advisory for Metro Manila, PAGASA said: "Intense rainfall (16.2mm/hr) was observed over Quezon City, Moderate to Heavy rainfall (2.5-7.5 mm/hr) was observed over Caloocan, Novaliches, Pasay, Manila, Pasig & Marikina while Light to Moderate rainfall (1.0-7.0 mm/hr) over the rest of Metro Manila."
The weather bureau added: "Intermittent Light to occasionally Moderate (2.5- 7.5mm/hr) rains is expected to affect Metro Manila within 3 hours."
It also warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas and those living near river channels.
In its 12:30 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA had said residents of Quezon City, Manila, Pasig, CAMANAVA, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Marikina and nearby areas should expect moderate to heavy (5-10mm/hr) rains with occasional heavy to intense (15-30mm/hr) rains within 2 hours.
PAGASA also said torrential rainfall (32-60mm/hr) was observed over CAMANAVA, La Mesa, Commonwealth, Quezon City and Novaliches, moderate to heavy rainfall (2.5-7.5 mm/hr) was observed over San Juan, Manila, Pasig and Marikina while light to moderate rainfall (1-7mm/hr) was recorded over the rest of Metro Manila.
PAGASA hoisted a yellow warning at 11 p.m. Wednesday but upgraded it to a green warning at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
On Wednesday, several cities in Metro Manila, including Marikina, Pasig and Manila were placed under a state of calamity due to floods.
Thursday classes in Metro Manila public and private schools in all levels have been suspended.
