Mosley on Pacquiao’s speed: Nothing new

Former world boxing champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley said he’s not afraid of Manny Pacquiao’s fighting style, claiming it's not something new.

"I've been in the ring with people who throw a lot punches… so it's not like something I haven't seen before. You know, [those] rapid punches… I've seen that type of hustle in fighters before," the American boxer said in FightHype.com.

Mosley, who will be challenging the Filipino champion for the World Boxing Organization(WBO) welterweight crown, said he’ll use his own speed and power to negate Pacquiao’s advantages.

"I'm pretty sure I'm going to be able to land some good shots on him and get him in trouble," he said.

"Sugar" is scheduled to square off with Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Unlike Margarito

Mosley vowed that unlike Margarito, who badly lost to Pacquiao, he will knock the 8-division champion down.

"I know I can touch (Pacquiao). And not only that, I hit harder than Margarito... who hits alright and pretty good," he said.

Mosley, who earlier claimed that Pacquiao is easy to hit, said the Filipino champ will be surprised once he gets hit.

"I know that when I hit him, it can be very deadly to him. He's never been hit by another like me," he said.

The 39-year-old American said he will prove his critics wrong by doing some damage against the 32-year-old Pacquiao on May 7.

"I'm definitely amped and it's not even directed towards Pacquiao. I'm amped just to get out there and beat him and show these people. I mean, they think I'm a joke or something? Okay. We'll see," he said.

Pacman admits disadvantage

Pacquiao said he refuses to underestimate the older Mosley simply because of the American's vast ring experience.

The Filipino boxing superstar arrived in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) and is preparing for his press tour to promote the Mosley fight.

"Hindi natin puwede i-underestimate ang magaling na boksingero... Malakas din at champion din," he said. "Sa experience, talo tayo."

(We should not underestimate a great boxer. He’s strong and a champion. He has the advantage in experience.)
