MALACAÑANG ASKED MELO TO STEP DOWN EARLIER

CONTRARY to reports, former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Jose Melo was forced by
jose meloMalacañang to resign at an earlier date than the one he had previously announced. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on Sunday confirmed the appointment of veteran election lawyer Sixto Brillantes Jr. as Melo’s replacement.

According to a The Manila Times source who is close to Melo, the former Comelec chairman was asked by the Palace last week to step down before Congress would resume its session today
