Azkals Advance to Suzuki Cup 2012 semi-finals

Phil Younghusband saved the day for the Azkals with an early second half goal, lifting the Philippines to a 1-0 victory over Myanmar in their do-or-die match Friday, November 30.

Because of the win, the Azkals booked their second semi-finals slot in a row at the prestigious tournament.

The game's first goal came in the 47th minute, when Jason de Jong chipped a ball to Younghusband, who blasted the ball with his left foot and onto the bottom right of the net despite being marked by two defenders.

Substitute Angel Guirado sealed the the victory for the team on the 93rd minute, off a long pass from defender Carli de Murga. Guirado, alone on top, took advantage of the ball and outran his defender, shooting the ball past Myanmar keeper Thiha Si Tu.

The Philippines and Thailand advance to the next stage from Group A.

This is the first time the Philippines has ever defeated Myanmar. Full Story

Mistulang bumawi rin ang Azkals mula sa masaklap na pagkatalo sa Myanmar noong 2002.
