MANILA, Philippines – Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said his family will fight the $353.6-million contempt ruling of a US appellate court against them and the estate of his father, former strongman President Ferdinand Marcos.
The senator made the statement after the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on October 24, 2012 upheld what is believed to be the largest contempt award affirmed by an appellate court.
“As the co-executor of my father’s estate, it is my duty to administer the estate’s assets properly. Therefore, we will deal with this matter when it is filed in the proper court,” Marcos said in a statement.
The young Marcos said that he and his mother, Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, would like to have a closure on the issue they have been facing since the ouster of his father in the Edsa People Power Revolt in 1986.
“Tulad ng ating mga kababayang Pilipino, ganoon din ang pagnanais ng aming pamilya na tuluyan nang makausad ang ating bansa. Higit kaninuman, kami ang may pinakamasidhing pangarap na matuldukan na ang mga usaping tulad nito sa paraang naaayon sa batas,” he said.
