OWWA Conducts Entrepreneurial Trainings for OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA-RWO1) recently launched the monthly Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) Ilocos Norte at the Sanguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall in Laoag City as part of the agency’s providing social preparation for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents.

According to Labor Communications Officer Amapola Z Villar, the EDT, which will be held in the area every last Tuesdays of the month, has been coordinated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Laoag, catering the recipients of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) Livelihood Assistance, beneficiaries of the economic component of Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP), and interested applicants for the P2-billion-funded OFW Reintegration Program.

Loreta B. Vergara, EDT program focal person, said this monthly activity, which started in Laoag, will also be undertaken in the provinces of La Union every first and third Wednesdays; Ilocos Sur every last Thursdays; Eastern Pangasinan, every first Friday; and Western Pangasinan every third Tuesdays of the month, in coordination with DTI and Landbank.

Vergara explained that the primary purpose of conducting this monthly training is to fully inform the OFWs about the existing reintegration program where they can apply for loans which they can use as either starting fund for business or additional fund to augment an existing business; provided they can present any mortgageable collateral, completely filled-out application form, and a business proposal.
