Chang escapes Orcollo in PBB Philippines vs Asia

Reigning World 8-Ball champion Chang Jun-lin of Chinese Taipei escaped former World No. 1 Dennis Orcollo with a 9-8 win during their closely fought match in the 2012 PBB Face-Off Series – Philippines vs Asia late Saturday.

It was a shocker for Orcollo, who surged to early leads of 4-0 and 7-2 in the race-to-9, winner's break format.

The series is jointly organized by the Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp.

"Hindi ko alam kung paano ang nangyari kasi 8-6 na ang iskor at isang rack na lang panalo na tayo. Kaso nag scratch ako sa pag break ko sa 15th rack," said PSA Athlete of the Year Orcollo.

Chang got the chance to overtake Orcollo when the Filipino got stuck by a dry break. This allowed Chang to unleash the big rally, winning three straight racks for a 9-8 win.

"In the start of the match I was so nervous when Dennis took a 4-0, 7-2 to 8-6 lead," said Chang through an interpreter. "However I didn't lose hope because of the winner's break format."

Chang’s win lifted Team Asia into a 3-1 lead against Team Philippines in the PBB event.

Earlier, Ko Pin-yi of Chinese-Taipei beat Filipino pool maestro Efren "Bata" Reyes, 9-4.

But Team Philippines bounced back with a come-from-behind win by Francisco "Django" Bustamante over Ko, 9-7.

Chang then defeated Filipino Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza, 9-7.

The event is supported by Malungai Life Oil, Airport Casino Filipino, Hermes Sports Bar, Dennis Robocop cues, Mandarin Sky Sea Food Restaurant, and Golden Leaf Restaurant. -- By Marlon Bernardino
