KENNETH COBONPUE AND FRIENDS OFFER A VISION FOR NAIA MAKEOVER


MANILA, Philippines -- Just as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal I made it last week to a website's list of the world's worst airports, noted industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue and friends Budji Layug and Royal Pineda now offer an unsolicited, pro-bono design for its makeover.

Cobonpue and friends actually see the airport in the middle of Metro Manila as having “great potential” for tourism and national pride.

“We made this design because we believe that no matter how beautiful our country is, our airports give the first and last impressions,” he said on his Facebook page.

The design uses modern tropical design upgrade that abides by the principles of simplicity, easy maintenance, sustainability, and cost efficiency.

“It’s time someone did something about the worst airport in the world,” Cobonpue said.

The rehabilitation and renovation plan “is relatively inexpensive and simple to adapt. The plan also involves renovating the interiors to allow faster flow of travelers between security, immigration, and departure,” he added.
