Help for Filipino Job-hunters in UAE

A group of Filipino human resources professionals will be in the capital today to teach job-seekers and laid-off workers interview etiquette, salary negotiation and CV writing. The Filipino Human Resources Practitioners’ Associationwill also familiarise them with UAE labour law.

The hour-long mentoring session, called Employment 101, will be at 4pm at du Forum on Yas Island. The event is a precursor to the group’s job fair next week.
It will also focus on effective job-search methods, interviewing tips and how to sell oneself.

“Many Filipino applicants, especially those who are on tourist visas, are making decisions out of desperation,” said Florendo Padilla, 30, a senior recruitment consultant in Dubai.

“When their visas expire, they’ll take anything and later complain about the job and the low salary.”
Help is on hand for those wishing to make their CVs attractive to employers and for some career advice.

This initiative is part of the Filipino Channel’s Kabayan Serbisyo Fair 2012, including the Middle East launch of its citizen journalism campaign.
