Calling all students who wish to be the next Christopher Nolan or Brillante Mendoza. Make good use of your camera phones by joining the first ever Cine-Phone Film Festival sponsored by the Metro Manila Development Authority.
The Cine-Phone Film Festival will solicit videos shot on mobile phones by high school and college students nationwide. It will serve as a prelude to the Metro Manila Film Festival in December, MMDA chair Francis Tolentino announced on Thursday. "I am optimistic that the Cine-Phone competition will produce potential award-winning directors and will add to the success of this year's MMFF," Tolentino said.
The project seeks to expand the scope of the MMFF by encouraging budding filmmakers to take part. It is open to all high school and college students duly endorsed by their schools or universities.
Each participant must submit a cellphone video with a running time of 3 to 5 minutes. The video must follow the theme "Restoring Road Courtesy Among Motorists and Pedestrians".
A total of 60 finalists will be selected from the entries, 20 each from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Of those 20 selections in every island group, 10 will come from the high school category and 10 from the college entries. Six regional winners will be selected, three for high school and three for college. All winners will receive P25,000 each at the MMFF’s Gabi ng Parangal scheduled on December 27.
In addition,free-post production packages, digital cameras, broadband kits, high-end smart phones and apprenticeships with film director Paul Soriano will be granted to the winners. Deadline for submission of entries is on August 20. The 60 finalists will be announced on August 27.
