Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks lead 16-man Gilas pool for SEABA, SEA Games

Philippine national men’s basketball team coach Tab Baldwin trimmed his pool for the SEABA championships and the Southeast Asian Games down to 16 names on Friday.

Among the players named to the pool were brothers Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo, two-time UAAP MVP Ray Parks, NCAA MVP Scottie Thompson of Perpetual Help, San Beda’s point guard Baser Amer and De La Salle star Jeron Teng.

The other members of the team are FEU’s Mac Belo, UST’s Kevin Ferrer, NU teammate Glenn Khobuntin and Troy Rosario, Arellano University’s Jio Jalalon.

Teng led a group of four other Green Archers to make the cut, with Arnold Van Opstal, Norbert Torres, Almon Vosotros and Prince Rivero all named to the pool.

PBA D-League star Garvo Lanete is nursing an injury but could be available to join the team as well.

The team will be backstopped by naturalized player Marcus Douthit, who is currently playing as the Blackwater Elite’s import in the PBA.

The Gilas squad will be trimmed down to 12 before it takes the floor in the SEABA championships this April and the SEA Games in June.

The older Ravena, Parks, Belo and Ferrer are holdovers from the team that won the gold medal in the SEA Games. Many of their teammates on that team – including Kevin Alas, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Jake Pascual and Jericho Cruz – are already in the PBA.

Ravena and Parks were also part of the country’s SEA Games team in 2011.
