Starting Jan. 1 next year, the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) will implement the new premium rate of P2,400 for individually paying members (IPMs) with a monthly income of P25,000 and below.
The higher PhilHealth contribution will be equally shared by employers and employees, for the employed sector will be at 2.5% of their salary. Salary bracket floor shall start at Php 8,000 and pegged at 35,000. those who used to pay a monthly contributions of P175 are now required to pay P200 for the same salary bracket. .
Individual Paying Members (IPMs) can choose from three payment schemes: P600 per quarter, P1,200 semi-annually or P2,400 in annual premium. IPMs with an income of more than P25,000 shall continue to pay P3,600 in annual PhilHealth Premium.
PhilHealth members under the new schedule shall be entitled to in-patient hospital care including all case rate packages and catastrophic illnesses in the Case Type Z Benefit Package, out-patient coverage and other special benefit packages under the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP),” he added.
The Philippine government depended the premium hike of PhilHealth and SSS through Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma who said that the increase has been the result of study.
He was quoted as saying “Iyan naman pong mga bagay na yan ay produkto ng pag-aaral, pag-aanalisa (analyze) at pagtataya, assessment on costs and benefits. Kasi po hindi naman maaaring libre iyong mga benepisyong yan. Kinakailangan po ay magkaroon ng pagtutuos kung sino ang mag-aasume ng burden,” Coloma said in a press briefing.
Secretary Coloma added further that “Kaya sa lahat naman po ng pagkakataon ay pinag-aaralan kung ano ang pinakamainam na balance between costs and benefits at tinitiyak naman na hindi magkakaroon ng masyadong mabigat na pasanin doon sa mga empleyado o sa mga beneficiaries.” he said.
