DOST Search for Science, Technology Scholars Is On


Another opportunity awaits those looking to become Filipino scientists as the scholarships for master’s and doctorate degrees in priority science and technology areas is now available.

The scholarship, offered by the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP), will enhance the need for research and development in science and technology, said the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Ilocos.

Applicants who will be qualified are entitled to a free tuition fee, monthly stipend, transportation and book allowance, group insurance and research grant.

Rachelle S. Jose, DOST project assistant, said the priority fields of study under the program include: Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources, Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Biological Sciences, Information and Communication Technology, Biotechnology, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Chemical Sciences, Pure and Applied Mathematics, Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Pure and Applied Physics and Earth, Atmospheric and Space Sciences.

Jose said application forms can be secured at DOST-SEI, National Science Consortium (NSC) Member Universities, DOST provincial/regional office or download at www.sei.dost.gov.ph or www.sei-scholarships.ph.

Applicants must be natural-born Filipino citizens, in good health, not more than 45 years old and do not have criminal or administrative case, able to pass the admission requirements for graduate studies at any of the NSC member-universities and pass the interview and other screening process.
