A chicken lays giant egg in southwest China (Video)

A chicken in China's Guizhou province has laid a giant egg, according to The Los Angeles Times reports that the giant egg weighed nearly half-a-pound. It was three times the size of eggs commonly available at grocery stores.

A Chinese chicken lays an egg that weighs half a pound, has two yokes inside and contains another fully-formed egg. The hen has been laying these extraordinary items for three weeks, according to its owner. She also says she thought the bird was dying as it struggled to lay the first mammoth egg.

A hen in southwest China has laid an egg weighing almost half a pound, but what the owner found inside was even more amazing.
Granny Yang showed fellow villagers in Bijie in Guizhou the giant egg, which her hen laid two weeks ago. It is almost three times the normal size.

The 87-year-old asked someone to crack it into a bowl, only to find two yolks and another egg inside the shell.

"I'm more than 80 now, but I have never seen eggs like this before," Yang said.

She says the hen started laying oversized eggs about three weeks ago and has since produced five monsters.

Yang originally thought the bird was dying when she saw it struggle to lay a huge egg for the first time.

The hen does have its own preferred diet, eating rice instead of the more usual corn.
