According to Analysis Of In-Demand Skills And Hard-To-Fill Positions For Overseas Employment of Manpower Development Division of Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has launched a new priority program/project to boost the promotion and preservation of the jobs of Filipino workers, in line with the efforts to keep the economy growing and enable it to take advantage of the projected global rebound in 2010.
One of these projects is the Project Jobs Fit: The DOLE 2020 Vision. It seeks to identify the preferred skills in priority industries per region up to 2020, via the conduct of consultations with stakeholders and review of existing literature and national and regional development plans. This will guide students and new entrants to the labor force on which course or training to undertake, in order to find employment upon graduation.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) was tasked to inform and enlist the cooperation and commitment of industry associations to provide the market updates, in-demand skills, employment requirements and to consolidate the information gathered. A preliminary consultative meeting with landbased and seabased associations was held on 18 September 2009 at the POEA.
As part of the project, the Employment Branch through the Manpower Development Division (MDD) conducted a survey to determine the in-demand skills and hard-to- fill positions for overseas employment both for landbased and seabased sectors. The survey lasted from the 1st week until the end of October 2009.
The result of the survey revealed in demand skills across several countries:
