PBA: San Mig Coffee shoots for twice-to-beat bonus against GlobalPort; Barako Bull, Rain or Shine battle

San Mig Coffee eyes the bonus while Barako Bull seeks a win to stay alive for a quarterfinal seat in the 2013 PBA Philippine Cup at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The Mixers square off against ousted GlobalPort in the main game at 7:30 p.m. while the Energy Cola entangle with Rain or Shine in the opener at 5:15 p.m.

A win by San Mig Coffee (9-3) would clinch the No. 2 spot and the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round. The Elasto Painters are heavily favored to win against the 1-12 Batang Pier.

“We have to look beyond for GlobalPort’s record and focus on how good their personnel are. With (Gary) David, (Willie) Miller and the rest, they are a team that can put it together for a night,” said San Mig Coffee mentor Tim Cone.

“We need to make sure we focus on our own preparation and the way we go about things. If we can focus on the process, the result will take care of itself,” he added.

GlobalPort, the newest team in the league, was the first to bow out of the competition.

In the opener, Barako Bull (4-9) hopes to extend the team’s stint in the All-Filipino tournament with a win over quarterfinalists Elasto Painters and force a playoff for the No. 8 spot against sister team Air 21 (5-9).
