Sinabi kahapon ni Pangulong Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III na pabor na siya sa ‘decriminalization of libel’.
Sa kanyang pagharap sa annual presidential forum ng Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) sa Manila Hotel, sinabi ng Pangulo na pabor na siya ngayon sa pagtanggal ng ‘criminal liability’ o parusang kulong sa libel at maiiwan na lamang ang ‘civil liability’.
“In regards to the penalties, are you personally in favor people being jailed for defamation or libel with regards on the internet or in print, should that be a criminal offense or should it just be in the US or other major countries a civil problem?,” tanong muna sa kanya ng isang reporter.
“I’m divided between sometimes the personal side and the public side. I think I fully subscribed to the idea of decriminalizing it but -- decriminalizing, but not lessening the atmosphere to encourage irresponsibility in certain quarters,” sagot ng Pangulo.
