This early, President Benigno Aquino III has already started seeking support for his candidates in the 2013 polls.
During the birthday party of Imus Rep. Erineo Maliksi on Sunday, Aquino said he needs more allies in government to make it easier for him to implement governance reforms
“Next year is an election year, and I will seek your support again…This is my appeal to you: you might want to increase my allies in government so that it will be easier to reach a consensus when we talk,” Aquino said.
The President said he does not want a situation where his suggestions are immediately met with opposition.
Aquino’s Liberal Party now heads the ruling coalition in Congress.
The President clarified that he is not adverse to criticisms, as long as the political opposition do not do anything illegal.
“We have not shut our ears to criticisms, to those who are opposed to us. But once I have already made a decision, it means it is already clear to me that it is for the good of the people,” Aquino said.
