MANILA, Philippines - The tale of the world's largest crocodile in captivity caught the interest of Facebook users worldwide, who made it one of the 40 most shared stories of 2011.
According to a list released by Facebook on Wednesday, the story of “Lolong,” the 20.3-foot long reptile was the ninth most shared story on the social networking site, although no exact figures were given.
Although various local websites published the story first, the September 5 story by the Associated Press was the one most heavily circulated all over Facebook.
The top most shared item over the first 11 months of 2011 is the satellite image of Japan before and after the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year. The other most shared stories include the new zodiac sign, the new timeline feature on Facebook, and the loyal Japanese dog, among others.
