Malacañang: November 30 Holiday will not be Moved

There will be no long weekend for this coming week to mark Bonifacio Day, Malacañang said Sunday.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte stressed this in response to several inquiries on whether the observance of Bonifacio Day on Nov. 30 will be moved to the nearest Monday.

“According to Proclamation 84, series of 2010, Bonifacio Day will be marked on November 30, on a Wednesday, as the date falls. There will be no moving it to Monday," she said on government-run dzRB radio.

She said Proclamation 84, which set the dates of holidays for 2011, would have otherwise indicated that the holiday be “moved."

“When I checked the text of Proclamation 84, it really indicated it [Bonifacio Day] would be observed on Wednesday," she said. Meanwhile, Valte said the Palace may soon issue a proclamation specifying the dates of holidays for 2012. “We will issue the proclamation as soon as it is signed by the president," she said.

Earlier, Valte said Malacañang is not likely to move the date of the observance of Bonifacio Day to the nearest Monday. The proclamation specified that Bonifacio Day be observed on November 30, a Wednesday.

Bonifacio Day this year marks the 148th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, the supreme leader of the Katipunan movement that sought Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule.
