Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) officials and staff, consisting of doctors and nurses, conducted during the weekend medical mission for the families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The medical mission was personally led by OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon as she attended to the families of OFWs in areas in Pampanga and Bulacan that were badly hit by typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel.”
Dimzon said their mission was successful because OFW family circle leaders also joined them to assist in the distribution of the relief goods.
Dimzon said their team distributed relief goods, water, and personal hygiene kits to residents.
She said based on the survey conducted by OWWA Regional Welfare Office 3, it showed that some 400 people — 40 percent of whom are children – are afflicted with respiratory tract infection, skin and water-borne diseases, gastrointestinal and hypertension illness.
She said they also provided free medical consultation and medicines to the residents who are mostly suffering from respiratory problems.
“A big number of the residents were suffering from respiratory problems,” Dimzon said. “Our doctors diagnosed a lot of children and elderly people with cough and colds so we provided them with free medication,” she added.
The OWWA chief said the medical mission is only one of the many activities that OWWA pursues in fulfilling its commitment to promote the welfare of OFWs and their families.
