Acer will launch a $99 Android tablet early in 2013


The Wall Street Journal confirmed the “Acer Inc. is planning to launch an Android tablet priced around US$99 early next year, a person with direct knowledge of the project, said.”


The above press image of the upcoming tablet has been confirmed as the real deal by the WSJ sources.

The $99 tablet specs on a serbian forum, acer will have a 7-inch screen with a 1,024 x 600 display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512mb RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, 8GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB with a microSD and PowerVR SGX 531 GPU, and operates on Google’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS.

At 7 inches with a 1024 x 600 resolution screen, the Iconia B1 is a reasonably low-cost tablet computer aimed to be offered in emerging markets.

According to the report, Acer also mulls on launching a cheaper version of its Intel-based Windows 8 tablets early next year.

Final pricing, however, will depend country-by-country in consideration of taxes. Once sold in the Philippines, it would probably be worth P5,000 to P6,000.
