OWWA Opens Scholarship Applications for OFW Dependents


The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is accepting applications for its Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) for school year 2013-2014.

Ma. Elvira Ador, OWWA-XI regional director, said this scholarship grant is offered to qualified dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who are members of OWWA.
Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements: must be a child of a married OWWA member or brother/sister of an unmarried OWWA member; must be below 21 years old; and must be a Filipino citizen.

The applicants must also be in good health and with good moral character; and must belong to the upper 20 percent of the graduation class with no grade lower than 80 percent.

Ador said EDSP grantees will enroll in any four to five baccalaureate course of their choice in Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-accredited colleges or universities.
Under the scholarship program, the grantee shall be provided financial assistance amounting to P30,000 per semester.
The scholarship shall continue until completion of the course regardless of the status of OFW membership provided that compliance with the scholarship agreement maintains, Ador said.

She said application forms are available at OWWA regional office located at Doors 31 E-G, G.B. Cam Bldg., Monteverde St., Davao City and must be submitted on or before September 28, 2012. (PIA-11/Carina L. Cayon)
