JUDICIARY IN STATE OF FEAR – MIRIAM

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Wednesday said the entire judiciary is now in a state of fear following the successful impeachment of Chief Justice Renato C. Corona by the House of Representatives.

Worst, this turn of events has already created an atmosphere of instability in the judicial system and ultimately will destroy democracy, Santiago stated.

“This has now become a country of fear. Everyone is in fear for himself, at least in the judicial system,” Santiago added.

She also believes there will be instability, particularly in the judicial system in the wake of the impeachment of Corona.

“So that is the negative effect of impeachment case filed against Corona, an atmosphere of instability is what might happen. It is sad and frightening because instability is the worst fear of the judicial system because if it is unstable, people will no longer believe in the integrity of their decisions, and that will destroy democracy,” said Santiago.

Santiago also believes that with the impeachment of no less than the Chief Justice, all the Supreme Court Justices will all be frightened to death.
