P-NOY TO HAVE FINAL SAY ON GMA TRAVEL

MANILA, Philippines - It’s President Aquino who will ultimately decide on Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s request to be allowed to seek treatment abroad for her troublesome neck spine, MalacaƱang said yesterday.

But presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Aquino, in making a decision, will take into consideration recommendations from Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.

“Whether it is acceptable to us or not, eventually we will have to wait for the final decision (of Secretary De Lima),” Lacierda told Palace reporters in a phone patch interview.

He said the question of whether Aquino would give his imprimatur to what his official would recommend will definitely be raised in a press briefing at the DOJ, where De Lima is expected to reveal her decision.

“Let’s just wait and I’m sure during the press con of Secretary De Lima, that question can be asked if the President had reservations or did the President approve in full the recommendation of Secretary De Lima,” he said.

Lacierda declined to share details regarding Arroyo’s request, saying doing so would be tantamount to speculating.

“Let’s just wait for that after they (Aquino and De Lima) meet and during the press con of Secretary De Lima. As of now, we don’t want to make any comments as to the options on what Secretary De Lima has been saying,” he said.
