Many congressmen cheered for Pacquiao, but none in SEAG

At least 60 Filipino congressmen flew to Las Vegas, Nevada last weekend to show support for their colleague, Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, against Juan Manuel Marquez.

In contrast, not a single congressman is cheering 512 Filipino athletes competing in the ongoing 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Indonesia.

Pacquiao told Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole that as many as 60 congressmen were in Las Vegas to watch his fight.

"We could do a roll call," Pacquiao quipped.

It's not clear if all of the 60 congressmen got permission from House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte to travel to Las Vegas.

Based on the official list of the House of Representatives, 26 congressmen were permitted to travel to the US during the time of the fight.

Of the 26 who were given travel authority, only 2 declared that they would be visiting Las Vegas.

Among the congressmen spotted by ABS-CBN in Las Vegas were Rep. Gina De Venacia of Pangasinan and Rep. Amado Bagatsing of Manila.

The two lawmakers were not on the list of those granted travel authority by the House Speaker. – With a report from Lynda Jumilla, ABS-CBN News
