The Commission on Higher Education will leave to college heads in Quezon City the decision on whether to suspend classes on Monday, when President Benigno Aquino III delivers his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).
CHED executive director Julito Vitriolo said his office has yet to receive any advisory from colleges about suspension of classes on Monday.
“So far we have no advisory about suspension of classes, so there will be classes in college in Quezon City on Monday – unless the head of the individual school decides to suspend classes,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said heads of colleges and universities in Quezon City may order the suspension of classes if the traffic and peace-and-order situation at the SONA may be “detrimental.”
Last Friday, the Department of Education in Metro Manila announced classes up to high school in will be suspended on Monday in Quezon City.
Traffic has been rerouted near the Batasan Complex, even as militant groups have prepared marches and protest actions on SONA day.
