ALERT STILL UP OVER DAMS AS RAINS CONTINUE AND NEW LPA IS TRACKED

Even as tropical depression Egay continued to exit the Philippines, authorities kept close watch over major dams in Luzon, where steady rains over the weekend and on till Monday were feared to cause water to reach critical levels.

Officials released water twice from Ipo Dam in Central Luzon, once on Sunday evening and the second time at 5:30 a.m. Monday, after it reached the level of 100.87 meters. They want to make sure it does not go over 101 meters, which is deemed critical and would force them to release water all at once. Officials said, though, that only one of seven gates at Ipo Dam was opened to release water into the Angat River. [ FULL STORY ]
