By Pia Lee-Brago (The Philippine Star) The Philippines thanked China yesterday for its “unprecedented” and “unusual” decision to postpone the execution of three Filipinos convicted for drug smuggling and to allow a review of their cases. The development has raised hopes for a commutation of the death sentence. In a statement, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo said President Aquino made a timely decision to send a delegation to China led by Vice President Jejomar Binay to plead for clemency for the three Filipinos on death row. |
