THE Supreme Court (SC) affirmed on Wednesday the conviction of the three Abu Sayyaf members responsible for bombing a passenger bus in Makati City on Valentine’s Day 2005, a day after another bus was bombed in the country’s financial hub. In the 19-page decision written by Associate Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and promulgated on January 10, the High Court found Gamal Bahara, Angelo Trinidad and Indonesian Rohmat Abdurrohim guilty of multiple and frustrated murder in the so-called Valentine’s Day bombing.The incident took place at about 6:30 p.m. of February 14, 2005 after the suspects planted the bomb at the back of the bus and set the device off with the use of a cellular phone after getting off on EDSA and Ayala Avenue.
