Donaire camp wary of Montiel’s strong left hand

Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire’s Mexican boxing coach, Robert Garcia, said his ward will have to look out for Fernando Montiel’s potent left hand when they tangle inside the ring on February 19.

"He's been around for many years and I've followed his career. One thing I love about him is his left... his left hook,” Garcia said in Examiner.com.

Garcia, who has been working in Donaire’s corner for more than a year now, explained that Montiel, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council(WBC) bantamweight champion, combines his left hook with a left upper cut.

Donaire’s coach said the combination has worked wonders for the Mexican champion.

“He's knocked people out with that uppercut, that hook first and that uppercut… We definitely have to be in the best shape and on top of our games for this fight," saidGarcia.

Montiel is a fearsome knockout artist, having taken down 34 of the 44 opponents he has defeated.

Most boxing experts said the Mexican champion will be Donaire’s toughest assignment.

This is why Garcia said Donaire is working really hard despite being a 2-1 favorite over Montiel.

"We don't even pay attention to that. This can go either way. Montiel is a very experienced fighter, and he's the champion, so I don't see it. He's a tremendous puncher with a lot of experience," said Garcia.
