Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 Android tablet. This a member of Samsung's new Pro line of tablets and it joins the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 in their line. This tablet is 11.7 ounces and 0.28" thick and it runs Android OS 4.4 KitKat with Samsung's new Magazine UX user interface. It's a fast tablet with a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core CPU with Adreno 330 graphics, 2 gigs of RAM and 16 0r 32 gigs of internal storage. This is a WiFi only model with dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, a GPS, microSD card slot that's compatible with SDXC cards, USB host, front 2MP camera and a rear 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. Pricing starts at $399US for the 16 gig WiFi model. It's available in black and white.

The new smaller iPad boasts the same 2048 x 1536 resolution as the iPad Air, but packed into a 7.9" IPS display with 326 PPI pixel density. It runs on Apple's new A7 CPU with M7 motion co-processor as do the iPhone 5s and iPad Air, so it's significantly faster than the original iPad mini. The Retina mini starts at $399 for the 16 gig WiFi model and it's available in larger storage capacities and with 3G/4G LTE on all major US carriers. The tablet weighs 12 ounces and has an aluminum back in your choice of space gray or white (with silver back). It has a front 720p Facetime camera and a rear 5MP camera with HDR that can shoot 1080p video. Apple's iLife and iWork apps are included and the tablet ships with iOS 7.
