Illegal recruiters are enticing Filipinos particularly those based in Bataan, Baguio and Isabela of non-existent jobs in Italy, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) warned.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said they were informed about the rampant recruitment activity in the areas by representatives of Global Management System, a company allegedly based in France.
“We warn Filipinos in these areas to be wary of people approaching them for non-existent jobs in Italy. Report them at once to the POEA, or to the police,” said Baldoz.
Baldoz said Labor Attache Viveca Catalig in Rome reported that recruiters offer victims jobs as farm workers, guest relations officers, housekeeping workers, and information assistant for one Raffaldini Farms/Vineyards Hotel Resort in Italy. The recruiters are reportedly using a job order supposedly issued by Global Management System to a MYUPANGCO Consultancy based in Rome.
“We have been informed by concerned Filipino community leaders in Rome that unsuspecting job applicants were being asked to pay the amount of P55,000 as processing fee for these jobs,” Catalig said.
Catalig explained that application for work to Italy is still through the direct hiring system involving the issuance of a decreto flussi by the Italian Ministry of Labor, the government authority providing a quota for foreign workers. She further said that in Italy, most of the required workers are seasonal workers and are in the services sector.
