MANILA, Philippines - Former Ateneo Blue Eagles, Smart Gilas Pilipinas and Talk N’ Text mainstay Japeth Aguilar has stepped one closer to his NBA dream.
The athletic 6-foot-9 forward was drafted 13th in the 7th round (109th overall) by the Santa Cruz Warriors during the NBA Development League draft on November 2.
Santa Cruz Warriors, formerly known as Dakota Wizards, is the D-League affiliate team of the Golden State Warriors.
If signed, Aguilar becomes the first-ever Filipino to play in the NBA D-League where it serves as a stepping stone for the aspiring NBA players.
Aguilar, who spent three seasons at with NCAA Division I school Western Kentucky where he saw little playing time, was a member of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters last season. Prior to that, he spent two years as part of the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team.
