Bro. Eli: The Dec. 21 end-of-the-world prophecy would never happen

BALITA entertainment editor Dindo Balares, Manila Bulletin entertainment columnist Yugel Losorata, and yours truly were amazed by the way Bro. Eli Soriano of Ang Dating Daan handled my question concerning the fear of many people all over the world that our ‘home’ would be destroyed by a massive catastrophe this coming Dec. 21.

“The world will not end on Dec. 21, 2012,” said Bro. Eli Soriano during the 32nd anniversary of UNTV’s Ang Dating Daan last Sunday (Nov. 4) night on our ‘tele-interview’ they called ‘Bible Exposition.’ About 20 thousand Ang Dating Daan followers were present at the Bible Exposition. Bro. Eli that time was somewhere abroad and we were able to 'see and talk’ with him through the big video screen on the stage of the ADD Convention hall via Internet.

“Nobody can predict the end of our world,” he stressed. Bro. Eli cited some verses in the Bible contradicting the Mayan calendar prediction. This worldwide fear was driven by the accounts of a group of international scientists and researchers who studied the Mayan calendar which allegedly had calculated the destruction of the world would happen December 21, 2012.

Some who also said years ago that the world would end on the date they predicted were proven wrong. The world exists until now, explained Bro. Eli. He proceeded by showing us videos of some doomsday ‘prophets’ predicting the end of the world followed by two more Bible verses opposing some false ‘prophets’ end-of-the-world foretelling.

Dindo, Yugel and yours truly were really astonished because my question about the Mayan calendar foretelling of world destruction we only talked about as a joke while we were eating dinner (a few hours before we were brought to the Bible exposition venue). Bro. Eli must have memorized everything in the Bible, we thought, for him to instinctively locate Bible verses which contain precise answer to our query.

Preceding our tele-interview on the Bible Exposition was the highlight of UNTV’s Ang Dating Daan 32nd anniversary celebration attended by approximately 30 thousands of Ang Dating Daan officers and members and some supporters from other religious groups.

There are many reasons why we should co-celebrate with Kuya Daniel Razon and Bro. Eli Soriano with the 32nd anniversary of UNTV’s Ang Dating Daan. The event at the ADD Convention Center built on a 46-hectare land in Apalit, Pampanga was attended by thousands of faithfuls and was made more significant by the inauguration of ADD’s La Verdad Christian College building and Home for the Aged and Abandoned Children Care Center facilities. That night was also the launching of Mobile Education, another public service project of ADD.

We were wondering, where are all the huge funds for ADD big projects are coming from? We’ve learned from an insider that ADD’s finances are from different wealthy international supporters who have ‘pure’ public service advocacy likewise with that of Bro. Eli and Kuya Daniel. And then we whispered to each other: “If only our politicians here are truthfully devoted to serve the people or really are running for public service, the Philippines will be truly a happy place to live!” Or maybe we won't be scared of the false prophets' doomsday prophecies because we know that whatever happens we have public servants who are truly watching over us.
