15 killed in truck mishap in Biliran


MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) -- Fifteen people were killed while eight others were wounded after a truck lost its brakes and fell into a canal in Caibiran, a town in Biliran province in eastern Visayas around 6:30 pm Saturday.

An Elf truck, which was on its way to Caibiran, lost its brakes while maneuvering a sharp curve on a highway and fell into a canal.

Thirteen were killed on the spot. Two died while undergoing treatment.

-Junalin Rosete

-Manilyn Rosete

The truck driver, Nilo Rosete, was also killed. Police are still identifying the remaining casualty and those wounded.




According to initial investigations, the Elf truck was on its way to Caibiran, where the people onboard were supposed to visit a wake of a family member.

The wounded were sent to the Biliran Provincial Hospital and the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City, Leyte.

Biliran’s local government has already promised to help the families of the victims. Report from DZMM.
