MAKATI City has exempted plastic bottle containers and sachets from the plastics ban ordinance it will fully implement in January next year.
Through an Executive Order, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay Jr. announced that plastic bottled products that contain drinking water, iced tea, cooking oil, peanut butter and similar items are now exempted from the plastic ban.
Also included in the exemption are plastic sachet products like shampoo and conditioner, soap, detergent, noodles; cosmetics; and cigarette case, according to Binay.
The sale, use or distribution of Styrofoam (polystyrene) and other materials with non-biodegradable components that are being used as containers for food, drinks, dining utensils and beverages will be prohibited.
