Twelve dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) from Western Visayas have joined the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for school year 2012.
OWWA6 Overseas Workers Welfare Officer I Rizza Joy Mapa said the 12 scholars are among the top 100 examinees that successfully passed the examination administered by the Department of Science and Technology last year. Some 4,384 dependents of active OWWA members took the exam in various identified testing sites nationwide and in Riyadh and Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Out of the twelve new scholars in the region, nine came from the city and province of Iloilo, two from Negros Occidental and one from Guimaras.
The new scholars from Iloilo are:

Kyle Henry Jimeno,
Tristan Jam Mallorca,
Ezekiel Magante,
Gloria Mar Sayson,
Carmen Thea Samoro,
Marc Karolj Villanueva,
Harold Gilbert Mempin
Emma Rose Guanco.
Christine Joy Ramos and Jimel Tolentino are the new recipients of the scholarship from Negros Occidental while Keano Lev Eslabon from Buenvista, Guimaras.
Mapa said Sayson of the University of the Philippines-Iloilo made it to the top 10 among the EDSP Scholars for 2012. The region also ranked third with the most number of qualified examinees, next to Region 4A with 25 passers and National Capital Region with 19 passers this year.
Scholars are entitled to any 4- to 5-year baccalaureate course in any CHED-accredited college and university and P60,000 financial assistance per year under the scholarship program.
