YEAR 2011 saw crimes in the country going down by more than 23 percent compared to the 2010 figures as a result of the sustained implementation of all police anti-criminality programs nationwide. The reduced crime came as the year saw the Philippine National Police having two chiefs, General Raul M. Bacalzo, who retired from the service last October 1, and his successor, Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome.
Going hammer and thongs against organized crime, the PNP also expects the downtrend in crime to further continue as police stations and units remain on constant alert against both street or petty crimes and organized crimes with even policemen assigned in administrative duties ordered by Gen. Bartolome to go on patrol to beef up PNP visibility particularly in crime-prone areas.
The reduced crime incidents were recorded despite a recent string of high-profile criminal cases including the murder of Ramgen Revilla and several daring robbery-holdups and killings involving motorcycle-riding gunmen in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
