With the NBA Playoffs nearing, the individual awards are now starting to take shape. Prior to the season, names such as Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Kevin Durant surfaced as the expected MVP for the season although none of these names are even close nowadays.
Ask Miami’s LeBron James himself and you will find that he points to Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose as the unanimous choice for this year’s MVP. Though the official word on who will be this season’s MVP has yet to be announced, Rose has indeed risen and brought the Bulls back on top. (ESPN)
Rose is the quiet but explosive NBA star that has drawn attention while all the other stars are bickering or tied up with some issues for the past year. Derrick is obviously out there to simply play, preferring to simply play and help his team win rather than work on his personal popularity.
Rose is averaging 25 points, 9 assists and 4.2 rebounds for Bulls who are 62-20 this season. The Bulls’ chances of grabbing the number one seed hinge on the results of the game between the San Antonio and the Phoenix Suns.
If the Spurs lose, the Bulls get the home-court advantage all through the playoffs. A win by the Spurs will mean that a random drawing will be made to determine which team will get the privilege throughout the playoffs.
Regardless, the Bulls will be facing the Danny Granger-led Pacers (37-45) this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
